Marching Bucs End Season On High Score

Nov 02, 2009 at 9:20 am

The Oswego High School Marching Bucs are bound for James Madison University for the “Parade of Champions.” Oswego has just one more show remaining this season with the National Division state finals in the Carrier Dome on Nov. 1.

The Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers turned in one of their best performances of the season Sunday night as the best bands in the state competed one last time.

Oswego turned in a score of 87.60 for its performance, good enough for eighth out of the ten schools competing in the National class. West Genesee took the National class, and the trophy given to the highest scoring squad, with a 97.30 score.

Oswego’s score put it in the upper third among the 51 schools competing in the New York State Field Band Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. The event ends a season in which the band grew steadily throughout the year, posting its best result at the Dome. The team improved its score by about 13 points during the season.

Central Square finished seventh in the National class, three-quarters of a point higher than Oswego, at 88.35.

Phoenix finished fifth out of five teams in the Small Schools 2 category, with a score of 81.30.
