OSWEGO, New York – Andrew’s Wine Cellar of Oswego will be hosting “The Godfather of Wine Tasting Events” on Saturday, November 14th from 1-5 p.m. at the Canal Commons.

Making an appearance at the upcoming event will be special guest Gianni Russo, otherwise known as Carlo Rizzi, the son-in-law of Don Corleone, from the Academy Award winning films, The Godfather I and II.

Gianni Russo recently launched his own line of wines called Gianni Russo Wines.  He claims that he has been interested in wine all of his life, and that he can’t remember a night that he wasn’t served wine by his family at dinner.  The recent launch of Gianni Russo’s wine was therefore a highly anticipated moment in his life.  Gianni makes a great wine at a price that is affordable.  His personal messages on each bottle of wine ends with “I believe, you shouldn’t have to be rich to enjoy a great wine.”

“We’re very excited to welcome Gianni Russo to our big event in November,” said Andrew Bowman, owner of Andrew’s Wine Cellar. “These events help people learn about great wine through tasting and from the vast knowledge provided by our guests.  Understanding the differences that make up a great wine is an endless learning process – and a fun one.”

An assortment of diverse wine specialists will also be in attendance at the November 14th event.  David Sampedro, a winemaker of Cortijo III, from Rioja, Spain, Dave Ostberg of Steele Winery in Kelseyville, California, and Oskar Bykne, owner of Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, located in the Finger Lakes will be in attendance.

David Sampedro is known for making Cortijo III, a fruity red wine with a red plum, raspberry and black tea quality.  Sampedro has been credited with making the best modern Rioja produced today.

Dave Ostberg has worked with Kelseyville, California-based Steele Winery for years, and will discuss their minimalist winemaking style.  They believe a lighter hand in winemaking will highlight the aromas and flavors of the quality fruit they source.

Oskar Bykne is the owner of Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard based in the Finger Lakes, NY.  This vineyard is famous for its award winning Riesling and Chardonnay, and continues to uphold the legacy of world-class winemaking.

“We are extremely excited to welcome these wine specialists to our next tasting event,” Bowman said.  “Their experience and wealth of knowledge in the wine industry will make this event one that you won’t want to miss!”

“It truly will be the godfather of wine tasting events,” he added.

The November 14th wine tasting event will take place at Andrew’s Wine Cellar located in the Canal Commons at 195 West First Street from 1-5 p.m. For more information, call Andrew’s Wine Cellar at (315) 342-5850.
