Shineman Foundation Awards First Round Grants for 2019

OSWEGO, NY – Eleven not-for-profit organizations were awarded grants totaling $270,000 from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation in the first of three 2019 grant rounds at its April board meeting.

Projects reach a wide range of people and organizations that focus on community revitalization and preservation, education, health and human services, and arts and culture.

The Oswego Renaissance Association was awarded $150,000, representing the foundation’s continued commitment to assist the ORA in its sixth year of growing the momentum of reinvestment and vibrancy in the city of Oswego’s neighborhoods.

Other community revitalization grants were given to Fulton’s CNY Community Arts Center to assist with completion of final Phase 2 renovations, the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce for revitalizing the Oswego and Fulton Farmers Markets, and the Sunrise Rotary Club of Oswego for its Leotta Park Pavilion project. A grant was also given to Friends of Mexico Point Park to assist with the restoration of historic Casey’s Cottage.

In education, the Shineman Foundation awarded a grant to the H. Lee White Maritime Museum to assist with its multi-year capacity building project. The Children’s Board of Oswego received a grant for its Keepers of the Lighthouse event this July, which is a collaboration between numerous community organizations.

Funding was also provided to Friends of Oswego County Hospice to promote its 30th anniversary of work in health and human services.

The Shineman Foundation also awarded arts and culture grants to the Art Association of Oswego for its 2019 Art Outreach program, the Oswego Players to build the capacity of its year-round Theater Arts Youth Academy, and to the Research Foundation for SUNY Art Department’s My Home Town project in collaboration with the city of Oswego and the Oswego City School District’s art teachers.
