Oswego Health Among Fulton Bike Rodeo Sponsors

OSWEGO – Local organizations are making plans for the annual Fulton Bike Rodeo, which offers children of all ages an opportunity to learn about bike safety in a fun environment.

The event also provides youths with a properly fit bike helmet and perhaps a new bike.

The rodeo will be held June 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Fulton War Memorial.

In case of rain, it will be held inside the nearby ice rink.

A number of refurbished bikes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There will also be drawings for several free new bikes donated by local organizations, along with air hop rides, bike registrations, bike obstacles courses, food and more.

Oswego Health is providing trained staff at the event to properly fit the free bike helmets.

Youngsters can also have a helmet that is in use checked for a safe fit.

New York State law stipulates that those younger than 14 must wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter.

Along with ensuring youngsters are wearing properly fit helmets, various agencies will be on hand to provide safety programs and tips.

They include the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department and the Child Advocacy Center which will provide information on how kids can be safe.

In addition, the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board will have its popular obstacle course available for those age two to five.

Members of the Fulton Police Department will have an obstacle course for older children and youths.

Kids can bring their own bikes or use one that will be available at the rodeo.

The Fulton Fire Department and Menter Ambulance Service will have trucks at the event for a close-up inside look at these emergency vehicles.

Representatives from Fulton’s Legacy Bike Shop will also be on hand to conduct bike safety checks.

Sponsoring the event along with Oswego Health are the Fulton Police Department, the Fulton Benevolent Association, the city of Fulton, Menter Ambulance Legacy’s Bike Shop, Fulton Fire Department, Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, Dunkin Donuts, the Fulton Rotary Club, Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, Oswego County Traffic Safety Board, Wal-Mart and the Fulton City School District.

Bike helmet funding is being provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a grant from the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

Special thanks are due to members of the Fulton Alliance Church who will volunteer their time at the bike rodeo. missing or outdated ad config
