Oswego Community Safety Day Planned

OSWEGO – The Oswego Fire Department is busy preparing for the Oswego Community Safety Day, scheduled for Saturday June 8 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

This popular event is held at the Oswego Fire De-partment Headquarters located at 35 E. Cayuga St., and features more than 20 local public safety and service agencies in attendance to promote community safety.

The Oswego Fire Department will have hose lines out for the kids to practice their aim in putting out a fire, and firefighters will be on hand for equipment and apparatus demonstrations.

Parents are encouraged to bring the kids by the Oswego Police Department tent to update child IDs.

The New York State Police will be on hand promoting seat belt use with one of its props.

The Oswego County Emergency Response Training Center will be supporting the event again with the fire safety trailer and fire extinguisher training.

The US Coast Guard – Station Oswego – will be focusing on water safety and will have one of its vessels on display.

Oswego County Stop DWI personnel will be on hand with impaired driving simulators, and the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board is planning a bicycle safety course behind the station.

Other agencies expected are Oswego County 911, Oswego County Health Department, Oswego City / County Youth Bureau, Oswego Border Patrol, Liberty Resources, Oswego State University Police, OCO Options, and Oswego Health.

Oswego Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Randy Griffin encourages community members and families to attend the event to learn how to help themselves in the case of an emergency.

“We are proud to host this important safety event and we appreciate the support from our community partners to make it a success each year,” he said.
