Hugh V. Donahue, 86

OSWEGO, NY – Hugh V. Donahue, 86, a resident of 3 Paloma St., Oswego, passed away on Feb. 26, 2010, at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Wallace) Donahue.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s School and Oswego High School.

Hugh was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.

Among his citations were the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

After the war, Hugh worked for Sivers Dairy and later was the owner and operator of the Scriba Town Tavern.

He was an honorable man who possessed a gentle soul and never spoke badly of others.

He was a lover of jazz, dogs and fast cars.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games.

He was a member of the American Legion #268 and its executive board, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and was a former member of the V.F.W. #5885.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann Donahue of Oswego and Patricia Donahue of Princeton NJ.

He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Mary DiLapi Donahue, who died in 2007.

He honored her memory daily in word and deed since her passing.

His inimitable sense of humor will be remembered by those who knew him.

As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Dowdle Funeral Home.

What’s New 2010 at Enchanted Forest Water Safari

The Curse of the Silverback, the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari’s newest water ride, which debuted in 2009, is expected to continue to draw visitors with its unique purple and black appeal and daring silverback theme.  Riders experience a 100 foot drop into a large 40-ft diameter bowl where they circle the bowl dropping out the middle into the splash pool below.
