Constellation Proudly Announces First Quarter Community Contributions and Volunteerism

OSWEGO, NY – Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station (NMPNS), owned and operated by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), is fortunate to operate in the greater Oswego community and we will continue to be a responsible neighbor.

Throughout 2012, we will strive to increase awareness and continue to develop our ties with local non-profit organizations through contributions and volunteerism.

Through the NMPNS Community Council, Women in Nuclear and Developing Nuclear Professionals groups, CENG employees are proud to give back to our community.

To date in 2012, CENG has supported 16 local non-profit organizations through contributions totaling over $63,000, including ARISE Call-N-Ride, American Red Cross, Friends of Oswego County Hospice, Inc., Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue, Inc. and Oswego County Historical Society.

Additionally, NMPNS’ Women in Nuclear (WIN) chapter members in January volunteered their time at the Salvation Army in Oswego and provided food, service and smiles to around 60 of our local neighbors in need.

Many members brought their children and all volunteers served in various tasks such as hosts, waiters/waitresses, food preparation, set up, cleanup and face painting. A food drive was also held on site to benefit the Salvation Army’s food pantry.

The group also hosted a Valentine’s Day flower fundraiser and donated the proceeds to the Hope for Heather Foundation for ovarian cancer research in honor of Christine Schoeck-Blakely, a former NMPNS employee.

More than 160 bouquets of flowers were sold on site, making this fundraising effort a great success with a grand total of $2,767 raised.

Members of the Developing Nuclear Professionals (DNP) group met on March 21 for its biannual Adopt-A-Highway cleanup of Route 48, just south of Fulton. The DNP also hopes to volunteer with Oswego County Habitat for Humanity in the summer.

CENG focuses corporate giving in four key areas of interest: arts and education, economic development, the environment and safety. More information regarding CENG’s community involvement can be found at www.cengllc.com
