OSWEGO, NY – Oswego’s War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden was successfully planted recently.
It is located at 160 E. First St.
The planting was done, according to Tony Leotta, city engineer, with the assistance of the following dedicated volunteers:
Randy Zeigler, chairman of Project Bloom; Ed Matott, former Sixth Ward Councilor; Lorraine Smith, wife of DPW Commissioner Mike Smith; Barb Sugar, City Clerk; and Leotta.
The garden consists of:
400 Marigolds (Orange & Yellow)
78 Geraniums (Red)
60 Zinnias (Mixed Colors)
12 Cannis (Red)
The official dedication of the city of Oswego 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden will be conducted at 4 p.m. on June 16 at the garden site.
The garden is part of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail, according to Leotta.
The trail consists of the following locations in the U.S.:

Lewiston, NY
Niagara University
Youngstown, NY
Amherst, NY
Buffalo, NY (6 locations)
Lancaster, NY
Batavia, NY (2 locations)
Rochester, NY (2 locations)
Hilton, NY
Putneyville, NY
Sodus Point, NY
Oswego, NY
Sackets Harbor, NY
There are also gardens on the Canadian (Loyalists) side at Grimsby, Burlington, and Amherstburg, Leotta added.
