To preserve a tradition that Harborfest was founded on 25 years ago CNY Arts Center has been working with the Harborfest Planning Committee and Oswego Arts Collaborative to create new opportunities for the public to rediscover the arts and crafts roots during the 25th anniversary of the festival.
The best of Oswego County’s art community will be showcased in Novelis Family Park at Franklin Square on Oswego’s west side along with family friendly events that include art demonstrations, art organization booths, entertainment, and art related projects.
Art demonstrations are planned at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. throughout Friday and Saturday that include Stained Glass, Quilting, Macrame, Origami, Textured Art technique and even Fly Tying fishing lures.
A separate tent will house the demonstrators and audiences.
Visitors can stop by the tent to see a demonstration schedule.
CNY Arts Center will take the lead on creating a large stained glass mural to be completed during the festival which will attract visitors to watch the live art event.
Artists will construct a 9 foot x 10 foot mural of Van Gogh’s Starry Night using colored glass bottle bottoms and paint.
The mural is expected to be complete and revealed to the crowds during Sunday’s events.
CNY Arts Center’s will also host a large booth with a variety of member artists, children’s art projects and art items alongside other art organizations including Art Association of Oswego and Lake Country Quilt Guild.
Along with children’s shows and senior concerts, the Novelis Family Park should be a welcome stop for all ages.
Artists are still being recruited for the mural team.

Fabulous! I got my first taste of showing my own art when Harborfest (3?) had an exhibition at the former Browne-Davis building. When I got an Honorable Mention at the show (the one and only, I believe), it made me feel confident enough to show again.
I think there are far more artists in the Central New York area than we know. Many do not join ‘associations’ for a variety of reasons, so it will be nice to meet and greet talented individuals who might stop by and maybe even ‘network’ for the post-Harborfest seasons.
