School Districts Face Falling Off Stimulus ‘Cliff’

Dec 22nd, 2009 | By Dave Bullard | Category: Fulton, Uncategorized

At least two local school districts — Fulton and Phoenix — rank in the top 3% of all districts in the state for receiving federal stimulus funds. That’s the good news. The bad news is that those stimulus funds aren’t permanent and the state’s top financial officer is warning districts to plan now for the money they won’t be getting in 2011. We’ve got a handy table to show you what your district got, and how it ranks alongside other school districts.

Letter to the Editor: Legislators Should Get The Facts

Sep 4th, 2009 | By Contributor | Category: Community

“Where’s The Money” seems to be the new game being played by two County Legislators in Oswego County this fall; must be election time again! The story in the August Valley News is patently false. All stimulus funded wastewater projects had to be in the pipeline before the ARRA was passed on February 19. There is $4.7 million in stimulus funded highway projects that will be complete before winter. If it were not for Senator Darrel Aubertine, those projects may well be in Long Island.

Oswego County’s Getting Stimulus Money, But How Much?

Sep 4th, 2009 | By Dave Bullard | Category: Fulton

Here’s a question: How much federal stimulus money is being spent in Upstate NY or in Oswego County?

Good luck trying to find out.

There’s no one-stop source for finding what’s being spent and where it’s being spent. Even state and federal lawmakers aren’t sure.

Which leads to the inevitable question: Is Oswego County getting its fair share?

State Parcels Out Economic Stimulus

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R-Pulaski)

In February, our state was awarded $24.6 billion as a result of the federal Economic Stimulus Package. The amount of stimulus money was unprecedented and was intended to be used to jump-start the struggling economy. As sanctioned by federal law, the state created its own Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Cabinet. This cabinet serves as a hub for which the funding is channeled. It’s also where universities, counties, cities, and, some cases, businesses and non-profits, may apply for stimulus funding.
