State Concludes OFD Investigation, Fines City

BREAKING NEWS: The New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services has concluded its investigation of the Oswego Fire Department involving incidents which occurred in 2009. As a result, the city has been fined $10,000 fine for the violations.

Owens Leads Money Chase in 23rd District Race; Has the Most Oswego County Donors

The campaign for Congress heads into the final days of the opening round with incumbent Democrat Bill Owens sitting on the largest pile of money.

Campaign filings made public this week show Owens with nearly $1.2 million on hand.  Owens has spent $1.6 million on his reelection so far.

Harborfest Vows To Keep City Informed As Plans Progress For 2011, 2012 Celebrations

Members of the Common Council and Harborfest’s board vowed to keep the lines of communication open as they plan for the 2011 and 2012 festivals. The two sides also agreed to continue searching for alternative funding sources and ways to tighten their belts to keep the festival a viable option for thousands of people next summer.

‘I Need to See Her One More Time’: Woman’s Essay Yearns for Lost Mom, Highlights the Work of Literacy Volunteers

Shirley Slate reads from her essay as daughter Caroline Aguzar looks on.“If I could bring my Mom back from Heaven,” Shirley Slate began, reading from her very first essay, a prayer for the return from Heaven for her mother for one more day.

“I just want to hold her one more time,” she said.

That Shirley Slate could read or write that essay was remarkable.  At age 52, she’s learning to read and write and aiming to get her GED.

Oswego Man Facing Assault, Burglary Charges

On Sunday, at about 8:49 a.m., a victim reported that at about 3 that morning she had been assaulted by an adult male, with whom the victim had a prior relationship and during the assault was unlawfully restrained.
