FULTON, NY – Erwin “Buss” Allen, 90; of Fulton died due to an automobile accident Saturday Sept. 6, 2008, in Fulton.

He was born in Volney, NY, and he has remained a resident of Fulton for all of his life.

He retired in 1980 after working for 50 years with the Iron Workers Local #60, Syracuse.

He was a United States veteran having served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the European Theater with the 624th Supply Company.

Mr. Allen was honored as the 2008 Veteran of the Year and served as grand marshal for Fulton’s 27th annual Memorial Day Salute parade.

He was a 45-year member of the Fulton VFW Post #569, where he additionally volunteered for 30 years with the color guard.

Mr. Allen was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Allen, in 1955; and his second wife, Katherine Allen, in 2005.

He is survived by his children: Mark (Melanie) Allen of Pennsylvania and Amy Felts of Oswego; his sister, Florence Stevens of Volney; three grandchildren, Ryan and Corey Allen and Gwen LoCastro; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 9:00 a.m. Thursday in the Sugar Funeral Home, 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton, with Rev. David Nethercott officiating.

Burial will be held in Peck’s Cemetery, Scriba, NY.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Sugar Funeral Home.

  1. I am a member of the VFW in Fulton, and I will tell you that Buss was a true gentleman. I first met Buss long before that, He would do jobs for the Fulton City Schools fixing their seats in their buses and other vehicles. We, Gary Firenze and I would talk racing with him at the club, he really enjoyed that and so did we. He will be deeply missed.

  3. I am truly sad to hear about Mr. Allen. I worked in a grocery store in Fulton for a few years. He was always one of my favorite customers. God bless his family and friends.

  5. Buss was a great friend to all who knew him. He was a genious with the beautiful upholstery he could create. People of his quality seldom come along. I will miss him.

  6. Buss was a great man!! He was my dad, Ernie Brewer’s neighbor for 50+ years. They did everything together and was a huge help to me when my dad became ill. I couldn’t thank Buss enough. He wanted to join my dad and now he has. I’m sure they will get together again and enjoy each other’s company. He will be missed by all who knew him. We love you Buss.

  7. I Lived 2 house’s south of Mr.Allen when I was a Boy,He was friends with my Uncle Bob, and my Mother. My condolences to Amy & the rest of the family.

  8. Our prayers go out to Buss’s family. Buss was a great man. We were all very proud of Buss at the Fulton VFW 569. Buss loved to come down and help out whenever he could . He would even be there bright and early in the moring when we had chicken BBQ’s. He would be there from beginning tying on chicken until the end for clean up. We ill miss Buss’s great smile every time you seen him. His daily visits to the club will be missed by all. God bless ya Buss.
