Parish Seniors Enjoy “Christmas In July”

The Parish Senior Dining and Activity Center was filled with the glitter and magic of the Christmas season on Monday, July 27, for the second annual “Christmas in July” celebration. The site was beautifully decorated. Eleanor Jacobson and Julie Raner enjoyed playing Christmas carols for the twenty or so guests. There was a fun, but confusing, gift exchange game. All enjoyed the many Christmas goodies.

Pat Ward Edges Jimm Phelps in Lapped Traffic for Fulton DIRTcar Win

Saturday at Fulton Speedway on Canale Insurance Night, Pat Ward out of Genoa, NY used lapped traffic to his advantage after a torrid battle with Jimmy Phelps. Ward passed Phelps with five to go to pick up the popular 35-lap Big Block Modified main. It was Ward’s second win of the year worth $2,000 to the driver of the Gypsum Express No. 42p.

Sheppard Sets Track Record At Brewerton

Matt Sheppard out of Waterloo, NY served notice during his heat race he was going to be a force on Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway. In his heat Sheppard ran a lap of 14.117 for a new Big Block Modified Track Record. In the feature, Sheppard blasted around race leader Tom Sears on a lap-13 restart to take command of the race. From there Sheppard dominated the rest of the way despite brake problems that were throwing spark showers all the way to the checkers. The 35-lap win pocketed Sheppard $2,000 behind the wheel of the Xtreme Lubricants No. 9s.

Community Remembers Rosemary Nesbitt

UPDATED – I learned a great deal from Rosemary Nesbitt. And, the education didn’t cease over the course of more than three decades since I left the classroom. Mrs. Nesbitt passed away peacefully on Sunday, with her family by her side. She was a Distinguished Teaching professor at SUNY Oswego, where she will be fondly remembered as an inspiring educator.

The woman who brought history alive in Oswego for decades has died.

Rosemary Nesbitt died Sunday, 84 years old, ending a life of documenting Oswego’s history and spreading those stories to others through theater, books and talks.
