County Approves One-Year PILOT With Constellation

The Oswego County Legislature voted 23-0-2 Thursday night to join the town of Scriba in accepting a one-year PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes) agreement with Constellation (owner of the Nine Mile Point Unit I nuclear power plant). Of the three entities involved, the town of Scriba voted to accept the deal while the Oswego City District Board of Education voted against it.

Hannibal Students Help Make 911 Maps More Accurate; ‘We’re Saving Lives’, Starting Careers

Natasha Waloven works on the GIS system as Patrick Sullivan looks  on.If you call 911, you want to know that the ambulance will pull into your driveway and not your neighbor’s, or the dirt driveway to your back lot.  For emergency responders, time lost can be lives lost.

The county needed people to place more than 60,000 pinpoints on its new aerial maps to make sure emergency responders pulled into the right driveways.

An accidental meeting led to Hannibal Central School’s GIS program, one of the few in the state, and a project that got kids involved in saving lives.
