Special Archives Day Coming Up

History organizations in Oswego County are planning to celebrate USA Archives Month by having an Archives Day on Sat., October 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. By driving around the county to various museums, visitors can gain a real knowledge of Oswego County history. Shown looking over historic items in the Oswego County Historical Society (OCHS) Richardson-Bates House Museum is Lyn Patterson. This museum is one of the participating sites during the Archives Day. For more information about the event call 343-1342.Several of the historical organizations in Oswego County will participate in this year’s Archives Day by having their facilities open for tours. The event will occur on Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special historical treasures will be on display at all of the facilities, so everyone is encouraged to take a wonderful “history trip” around the county on that day!

OHS Pair Tapped For All-American Band Honors

all-american band studentsThey were selected to perform at halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the premier high school football game in the country. It will be held on January in the Alamodome in San Antonio. Only 125 band and color guard members from around the country are selected. In the past four years, Oswego has had seven representatives.

Half Shire Historical Society

The Agricultural Society of Oswego County held its annual meeting at the Sandy Creek Masonic hall on Friday October 1st. The 2009 officers were reelected to serve another one year term. Congratulations are extended to all of the reelected officers who dedicate a tremendous amount of time to planning and executing the fair each year.
