APW Middle School Students Collect School Supplies for Afghan Children

June 10, 2011 Contributor

Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Middle School students recently participated in partnership with the Spartan Association at 10th Mountain Division Fort Drum soldiers in a community service project called “Operation Education Program.” The program’s mission is to collect school supplies to send to our deployed soldiers for distribution to children in Afghanistan. The education kits contain: a pair blunt end-scissors, a ruler, 12 new pencils, pencil sharpener, large eraser, colored pencils, one package of loose leaf paper, a composition notebook, three pocket folders and a zippered pencil bag. APW students raised 43 packages for soldiers to take to children in Afghanistan. Homerooms competed to see who could bring in the most supplies and Mrs. Hastings’ 5th grade class raised the most, earning them a Dunkin’ Donuts party. Pictured, left to right, are student representatives Lindsay Rollson, Emma Gutchess, Jenna Knepper and Mallory Cardinal. The community service project was done in conjunction with the school’s character education program.Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Middle School students recently participated in partnership with the Spartan Association at 10th Mountain Division Fort Drum soldiers in a community service project called “Operation Education Program.”
