“History is on our side for a white Christmas,” said Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. Dating back 47 years, to 1964, generally about three-quarters of our Christmas Days have been white, Gregway said. However, he admits, Mother Nature may supersede history this year.
While the connection to the classic holiday film is interesting, there are other attractions in the Central New York village of Seneca Falls in addition to the “It’s a Wonderful Life’ Museum.
The sounds of a tuba ensemble consisting of Oswego High School students and teachers Scott Ciesla and Jim Peer serenaded the students from several elementary schools on Friday. A variety of holiday music was played.
Every year students from the Kingsford Park Elementary School conduct a Spell-a-thon where they receive pledges from family and friends. The proceeds benefit the holiday giving drive at the elementary school. Entire fourth grade classes go to Wal-Mart and shop for special gifts.
Fitzhugh Park second graders wore their pajamas, brought along their favorite stuffed animal and enjoyed “Cuddle Up and Read Day” on Friday (the final day before break).
Children, in Cari Joyce’s classroom, spent the day listening to stories, but also focusing on reading and writing.
