As a parent, I know it’s never too early to start saving for your child’s college education. That’s why this week, I’m reminding parents about the options New York State has to help start saving for your child’s college years.
The students at Lanigan Elementary School participated in an assembly recently to celebrate the start of a successful new school year and to review the PBIS (Positive Behaviors and Interventions Supports) initiative and the school’s four behavioral expectations: be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and be a problem solver.
The students selected a picture of an animal or animals and then wrote a descriptive paragraph using the 6+1 writing traits model: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation.
The Oswego Common Council approved Local Law No. 2 of 2012 Monday night without any discussion. The discussion took place prior to the regular meeting. It is an attempt to ensure proper background checks are done on potential taxicab drivers, explained Third Ward Councilor Mike Todd. Taxi companies will have a two-week grace period to get the background checks done after the new law goes into affect.
The state Education Department awarded SUNY Oswego $553,448 in Race to the Top funding for an intensive teacher preparation program in high-need schools that also will enhance the college’s model of undergraduate teacher education going forward.
The “Magic of Reading” kicked off the annual Frederick Leighton Elementary School Read-a-Thon recently. The annual event will be conducted from Oct. 1-10 as students are asked to read at least 240 minutes during that time for an average of 24 minutes a day.
Betty R. Mace, 87, of Fulton, passed away Sunday September 23, 2012, at The Manor at Seneca Hill.
On September 28, the students within the Fulton City School District in grades UPK – 12 will have an early dismissal. Grades 7 – 12 will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. and morning Pre K – 6 will dismiss at 11:15 a.m. There will be no afternoon Pre-K classes.
