November 4, at approximately 9:53 p.m., FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant experienced an automatic reactor shutdown. The automatic reactor shutdown was as a result of a main turbine trip that occurred while regularly scheduled turbine testing was being performed.
Specialist Brett E. Gornewicz from Alden, Specialist Ryan P. Jayne from Campbell, and Staff Sgt. Dain T. Venne, from Port Henry, died of wounds suffered when their humvee was struck by an improvised explosive device. The three men were assigned to the 444th Engineer Company which is headquartered in Oswego.
All profits will go to church maintenance and outreach, including Tuesday Night Community Dinners, which has served thousands of free dinners to Fultonians for nearly four years.
The Oswego County Historical Society will host its next lecture entitled “Dr. Mary Walker – For a New Generation” on November 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richardson-Bates House Museum at 135 E. Third St., Oswego.
Performances will take place on the Frances Marion Brown theatre stage in the Oswego Civic Arts Center, Fort Ontario Complex. Production dates are December 7 and 8 and 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. As usual, a matinee will be performed on December 16 at 2 p.m.
The Manor at Seneca Hill will host a memorial service on November 18 in honor of former residents who have passed away during the previous year. The event will be held between 1 and 3 p.m., with a ceremony at 1:30 p.m
The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee presented Niesha Anderson with a certificate of appreciation for her 20 years of service with the county.
On December 8, Lake Ontario Commandery and Lake City 127 F&AM will welcome Grand Commander Donald J. Berry who will share a Christmas Toast with the gathering of Knights, Masons and their Ladies.
