Harvey O. Beck, 74, of Oswego, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday December 15, 2012.
A $5 million gift, the largest cash philanthropic gift in SUNY Oswego’s 150-year history, will name the Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation, now under construction and set to open in fall 2013.
2012 has been a banner year for New York State Wines. We’ve seen it right here in our own backyards, new wineries opening their doors and inviting thirsty wine aficionados to “Uncork New York.”
Several local organizations have benefited from fundraising events this year thanks to the generosity of the Oswego County Probation Department staff. This year, Probation staff raised funds for the Child Advocacy Center, the Oswego County Humane Society, and the Salvation Army to provide Christmas gifts during the holiday season.
This year, I’m focused on getting more jobs to our state and our region. In addition, I’ll be working with local individuals and my colleagues in Albany to help pass more synthetic drug laws that protect our communities and help close the loopholes federal laws have left. I also look forward to seeing a more equitable school aid formula enacted.
After operating out of a temporary location for the past four months, Catholic Charities of Oswego County is moving back home to its permanent location at 365 W. First St., Fulton.
All Oswego County offices, solid waste transfer stations, the Bristol Hill Landfill and the Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25, for Christmas Day, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day. The Energy Recovery Facility will remain open both days to serve solid waste haulers.
This traditional service of ‘Lessons, Carols and Candlelight’ will include the Christmas story from Scripture, the singing of lovely carols and candlelight shared in a large circle at the close of the service.
With cases of flu increasing, the Oswego County Health Department is urging residents to stay home if they are sick and follow other preventive measures to limit the spread of the flu.
