The CARES Expo was created in partnership with the Rural Health Network’s Co-Morbidity Task Force and is co-sponsored by the Office of People With Developmental Disabilities Family Support Services Council. It will be held on May 9 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center Arena.
Esther Gabriel (Fr., Lancaster, N.Y.) and Lindsey Eggers (Fr., Ridge, N.Y.) scored four goals each to help the Oswego State women’s lacrosse team (7-7, 4-3 SUNYAC) defeat New Paltz (4-9, 0-7 SUNYAC), 12-7, on Tuesday afternoon to remain in the SUNYAC playoff hunt.
In early April, SUNY of New York Chancellor Nancy Zimpher honored two Cayuga Community College students (Faith Fanning ’13 of Waterloo, NY, and Brian Knapp ’13 of Fleming, NY,) with the 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. In recognition of this highest recognition by the SUNY system, Fanning and Knapp have each been invited to speak at the 59th Annual Cayuga Community College Commencement ceremony.
Oswego Kartway officially opens for racing on Friday night with a non-point special to kick off the 2013 racing season. Drivers in as many as 10 different divisions of racing are expected to turn out on April 26 for their first look at the Kartway, known as the Bullring, in anticipation for the Championship season to get under way on May 3.
The Climate Action Plan team of Oswego and the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board are hosting an event to recruit team members for the Central New York Energy Challenge beginning at 7 p.m. on April 24 at the McCrobie Civic Center, 41 Lake St.
After months of pizza sales and fundraising, members of the Cayuga Community College Fulton Campus Veterans Club donated $1,000 to the Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room at Syracuse’s Hancock Airport. The room offers any active-duty military personnel a quiet, comfortable space to wait for their flights.
Competing its first two years as Oz Roller Girls, PCRD’s Breakwall Bombshells will kick off its season May 25 hosting the Roc City Roller Derby B-Sides. The veteran Rochester team won the only meeting between the leagues last season in a 205-188 thriller. On June 15, Port City will host the Albany All-Stars Roller Derby A Team. Oz topped Albany’s A squad twice last year in two exciting bouts, 204-162 in Albany, and 219-173 at home.
As in the past years, the event will feature the biggest and the best Saturday morning parade, local and national music groups, a great food court, drinks, a magician and rides. All entertainment is offered free to the public. The theme for 2013 is “America, United We Stand.”
Helen Caster of Fulton has been named a member of SUNY Delhi’s American Institute of Architecture Students for the 2012-13 academic year. Caster is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Architecural Design and Building.
Compiling a total of 23 runs on the afternoon, the Oswego State baseball team (18-12) had no trouble dispatching non-conference opponent Cazenovia (9-19) by scores of 15-1 and 8-0 on Tuesday. Seven Laker players had multi-hit games combined in the two contests.
