Congratulations to Lakeside Artisans’ member Tim Ames on the unveiling of his painting of the USS Oneida, a Brig of War which was built in Oswego and served in the War of 1812.
The painting, commissioned by the Friends of Fort Ontario, was unveiled on April 5 at the reception for the War of 1812 Symposium.

The first time I ran across people doing a long-stay at a resort was in Penang, Malaysia at the Parkroyal Hotel. The guests were Europeans, mainly from England, who were staying 2-5 months. I was impressed and thought it was a unique situation. But I have found out since that it is a common practice for Europeans from many countries to winter in SE Asia at resorts for a month or more.
Residents of the villages of Sandy Creek and Lacona no longer need to boil their drinking water. Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Director of Public Health, said several water samples were taken Wednesday and Thursday.The test results are satisfactory, indicating that the water is safe for residents to drink and use for cooking.
