Councilor: City Needs To Step Up Code Enforcement

The Third Ward Councilors said one way the city can increase its revenues and improve the quality of life at the same time is by vigorously cracking down on repeat code violator and collecting fines. It’s time to look “long and hard” at the way the city enforces its codes and possibly make some changes, Councilor Mike Todd said.

Legislator: It’s Time To Rebid County Contract

At the last county legislature meeting, I asked if the contract with IQS is going to be rebid. Like always, there was no answer. The contract expires in August and it can either be rebid or extended to IQS for another year. If it’s rebid, we have a real opportunity to save the taxpayers a significant amount of money.

Former ‘Lost Boy’ Connects Real-Life to Learning at FJHS

Through the Expeditionary Learning’s Common Core ELA Curriculum, FJHS students read the novel A Long Walk to Water and learned about a world that is on the continent of Africa, in the country of South Sudan, and during a time when children as young as six fled their villages and left their parents to escape war and starvation. In conjunction with the novel and classroom activities, former ‘Lost Boy’ Chol Majok was invited to share some of his personal experience with the students during a recent visit.
