The village of Mexico captured the title of Oswego County’s best-tasting drinking water in an informal contest held June 13 at the Oswego Farmers’ Market. Five municipal water districts took part in the 23rd annual contest.
Oswego Health will hold multi-blood analysis events in both Oswego and Central Square later this year. The Oswego blood analysis will be held from 6:30 to 10 a.m. August 3 at Leighton Elementary School, located at 1 Buccaneer Blvd. The Central Square event will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. September 14 at the Central Square Medical Center, located at 3045 East Ave. in the village.
The city of Fulton Department of Parks and Recreation presents comedian/magician Wade Live on July 10 at 10 a.m. at the Fulton War Memorial. This show is open to the public and completely free of charge. Wade Live is a professional comedy magician and children’s entertainer based in the Central NY area.
APW High School in Parish was this year’s winner in the 23rd annual Oswego County Envirothon. The annual competition tests high school students’ knowledge of natural resources through hands-on exercises in aquatics, environmental issues, forestry, soils, and wildlife.
John Tomlinson of Phoenix, son of Dale and Lynda Tomlinson, graduated from Hartwick College on May 25. Tomlinson majored in history and music.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education is seeking assistance from the community. To continue compliance with the New York State Comptroller’s Five Point Plan, the Oswego City School District is seeking community members interested in volunteering to assist the district to serve on the District’s Audit Committee.
A ‘sail-a-bration’ ceremony in the students’ honor was hosted the last week of the 2012-13 school year, giving teachers and the school principal an opportunity to recognize the students for their hard work and academic achievements over the past school year.
Oswego County legislators Amy Tresidder and Terry Wilbur presented a proclamation designating June as Dairy Month to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County at the June meeting of the full Legislature.
On the last day of classes in the Fulton schools, the Granby Gator School Mascot made a special visit to wish five friends a very happy final day of school. The Gator recognized and thanked those members of the Granby Elementary staff who are retiring at the end of this school year. These educators have touched hundreds of lives in the Fulton schools in many different ways and they will be greatly missed.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee recently presented Laurence Schmidt with a certificate of appreciation for his 31 years of service to the county. Schmidt will retire from his position as administrator of the Oswego County Office for the Aging.
