The following area students were named to the Dean’s List at Paul Smith’s College during the spring 2013 semester. Each earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction:
Ross Belfiore was congratulated by Fulton Rotarian Dick Kemmis on his membership in the Fulton Rotary Club. Ross is a retired vocational teacher and administrator at Oswego County BOCES.
Claude S. Wells, 88, a resident of East Syracuse, passed away on Thursday July 11, 2013, at St.Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Students are named to the Dean’s List if they have achieved a G.P.A of 3.6 or higher, and are recognized at Opening Convocation held in the Fall semester.
Talk about making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Whoever came up with the idea to turn an old railroad bridge over the Hudson River into a walkway gets an “Atta’ Boy.” The railroad bridge was built in 1889 and was in service until 1974. Through the cooperation of public and private groups, the Walkway Over the Hudson Historic Park opened in 2009 making it the longest footbridge in the world.
A teacher from Fulton is among a crew of 15 educators taking a voyage aboard a 180-foot floating classroom this week. New York Sea Grant is hosting 15 teachers and non-formal environmental educators for a week-long, hands-on learning cruise aboard the federal research vessel the Lake Guardian. This fall, they will share what they’ve learned with their students.
Trevor Mercier is eight years old and has Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma (brain tumor). He was first diagnosed in 2008 and was just short of four years cancer free when an MRI in May of 2012 showed that his tumor had returned. A benefit will be held July 20 starting at 2 p.m. at the Oswego Hibernians, 22 Munn St.
The fourth concert in the Oswego Summer Sunset Concert Series will be held July 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park. These concerts are provided free to the public by the city of Oswego and the Musicians Union of Oswego County. The Concert Band, under the direction of Trevor Jorgensen, will be performing this week.
Janice G. “Jan” Lockwood, 90, of Hannibal, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday July 5, 2013, in Oswego, NY.
Mary E. Powell, 66, of Hannibal, passed away on Thursday July 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
