63rd edition of the Sunoco Race of Champions modified to pay a minimum of $15,000 to win

Asphalt Modified teams are gearing up for the 63rd consecutive running of the Sunoco Race of Champions at Oswego Speedway on July 20. The Modified race winner will earn a minimum of $15,000 with more than  $17,000 in bonus lap money also up for grabs. The 63rd Sunoco Race of Champions Weekend will take place July 19 and 20.

Capt. Chad’s Second Annual All Women’s Fishing Tournament a Huge Success

More than 70 fun-loving females from throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states gathered recently for a memorable and charitable fishing tournament. Capt. Chad’s annual All Women’s Fishing Tournament ran from June 26 to 30. The event, now in its 14th year, is run by Capt. Chad Gehrig, skipper of the Oswego-based Son of a Gun charter service.

New York City Youth Visit Oswego County For Some Fresh Air

Sydney, Cici, and Hayden are excited to get the summer started!A small crowd gathered in the Burger King parking lot in Fulton on Tuesday afternoon. Some families held signs and balloons as they eagerly awaited the arrival of the bus from New York City carrying kids participating in the Fresh Air Fund who will be visiting Upstate New York for the next two weeks. Some are visiting Upstate for the first time. Others are returning to visit the same host families from previous summers.

State Police Arrest Texas Man After Lengthy Pursuit on I-81

At about 9 p.m., the Onondaga County 911 Center was advised that the New York State Police were in pursuit of a vehicle on Route 81 North near Preble and heading towards Onondaga County. The driver, and lone occupantof the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident by the New York State Police in Adams.

Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament Set

The annual Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament will be held on July 20 at Hooper’s Harbor Marina in Three Mile Bay. Nick was a sophomore at J.C. Birdlebough in Phoenix where he played football and basketball, however, his real passion was for fishing. There has been a tournament in Nick’s memory since 1999 when he died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 15.
