SUNY Oswego’s Ke-Nekt music series will explore musical territory from instrumental to vocal, traditional chamber to jazz to an inventive brand of contemporary for its 2013-14 season. The five-performance season, co-organized by the college’s music department and Artswego, will open at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9, in Sheldon Hall ballroom, with jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein.

At this week’s Administrative Service Committee meeting, Gay Williams, city attorney, requested council authorization for Mayor Gillen to enter into the proposed Water Supply Agreement between the Novelis Corporation, the town of Scriba and the city of Oswego. “The city and Novelis have been discussing this contract for many months,” she said. The committee sent the request to the full council.

Two pools near the village of Central Square and another in the town of West Monroe each tested positive for WNV. Aerial spraying is scheduled for Thursday night if weather permits. The area to be sprayed is the Toad Harbor / Big Bay Swamp area near the north shore of Oneida Lake.

Utilizing the resources of the Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County, Catholic Charities has gone tobacco free both inside and outside of its building.
The Oswego state Mens ACHA D1 hockey team held tryouts last week for the 2013-14 team and a record 68 players tried out for 29 roster spots. With so many talented players trying out, the coaching staff had a hard time narrowing the team down to just 29.
SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station will launch fall programming in September with a new Sharing Science series, followed by naturalist-led walks, a hands-on sustainable art series, tours of the new headquarters building and winter bird study.
