Suicide Prevention ‘Stride to Save Lives’ 5K Walk/Run set September 21

Suicide is a national public health crisis. It is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 34-year-olds and the third leading cause of death for 35- to 44-year-olds. A local organization, SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education – is planing a couple of events in hopes of lowering those statistics and raising awareness. “Stride to Save Lives” will be held at the college on Sept. 21. On Sept. 20, Kevin Hines talk at First United Methodist Church of Fulton. The suicide survivor will also be the keynote speaker for the “Stride to Save Lives” community 5K Run/Walk.

Aerial spraying of a portion of the target area in central Oswego County was completed on Monday, September 9. The entire target area encompasses approximately 15,000 acres in portions of the towns of Mexico, New Haven, Palermo, Scriba and Volney. Weather permitting, the remainder will be finished tonight, Tuesday, September 10.

The Oswego AmeriCorps program is seeking applications for the 2013-2014 AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps members serve with Oswego County schools and non-profits by mentoring, providing fitness and nutrition education, and managing volunteers. Applications are currently being accepted for 900-hour AmeriCorps positions that will start on Oct. 1.

I have a house-trained 1 1/2 year old puppy, Gracie, who, after having been spayed at 6 months, started to have incontinence issues. At times she had a urinary tract infection and we felt that was the cause. But lately she has had a couple of “accidents” even though the vet said she doesn’t have a bladder infection. What might be the cause of this?

Natoli, Dann Claim Fall Frenzy Series Victories at Oswego Kartway

Oswego Kartway’s Fall Frenzy Series, presented by RJ Kart Sales, took the green flag last Friday with Chris Natoli and Dick Dann driving to victory lane in the fall campaign’s featured divisions. Natoli bested a field of 12 Stock Heavy entrants to claim the opening win of the series, taking the top spot in the division standings.
