Local Artist Garners Award At State Fair

Michele Southgate, a founding member of the artists’ co-operative Lakeside Artisans, was awarded a third place at the New York State Fair.

Southgate plays with color, texture and light in her mixed media pieces.

Adding watercolor and acrylic paint to some papers and hand making others gives her a wide range from which to choose.

Southgate’s artwork and that of 19 other artists is on display at Lakeside Artisans, 191 W. First St., Oswego.

Lakeside Artisans is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday until 8 p.m. during the farmers’ market, and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

  1. Congratulations, Michelle! We saw that you won at the Fair. It’s validating for most of us just to get INTO the State Fair Competiion(s) as the competition is so massive! So to WIN, well, we knew you were good, now we know HOW good!
