Dog Dies after being left in Car for more than four hours

State Police were called to the Red Cross Parking lot across from the New York State Fairgrounds shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon (Sept. 2) for a reported animal cruelty case. When troopers arrived, they observed a male standing over a black Labrador canine who was seizing and barely breathing. Troopers attempted to cool the dog with water and ice.

War of 1812 Quilt Exhibit Opens Labor Day at Fort Ontario

Twenty-six quilts from the Great Lakes Seaway Trail War of 1812 Traveling Quilt Show are displayed at Fort Ontario State Historic Site from Labor Day until Sept. 29. The quilts are replicas of 1812-period quilts and were created by quilters from 11 states and three Canadian provinces. Every quilt in the exhibit has a story-card attached with interesting details about the quilts and quilt-makers from 11 different states and three Canadian provinces.

Local Civil Air Patrol members to honor September 11 victims

On Sunday Sept. 8, members from the local Civil Air Patrol unit, the F. R. Sussey Composite Squadron will host a September 11 memorial. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. and is open to the public. The Civil Air Patrol cadet color guard will be taking part in the event, along with special guests and local dignitaries.

Lichty Takes His First Oswego ISMA Super Nationals And Second Big Win Of Season At Big O

In July, Canadian Mike Lichty was on fire when he came to Oswego for the King of Wings. He not only set a new track record, but also dominated the race to take home the prestigious KoW crown. Saturday night at the 20th annual running of the Bud Light Oswego Super Nationals, Lichty could not hold onto his recently set track record, which was topped by Dave Shullick Jr., but he was able to dominate the 60-lapper to claim his first Super Nationals victory worth $3500.

Muggy August Was Actually Cooler Than Average

Despite the humidity, August 2013 goes into the record books as cooler than normal. That’s right, cooler, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The average temperature last month was a pleasant 68.6 degrees, but that is 0.8-degree below average. Gregway said, “Temperature wise it wasn’t a bad month. The humidity was a little tough at times.”
