Barry Leemann created the county’s “Green Team” which has had a significant environmental and financial impact on Oswego County as a community and as a business. As a result, the county has reduced energy costs by more than $150,000 to date and has helped avoid the production of almost 630 tons of greenhouse gasses.
Every year, the Boy Scouts of America organizes an annual food drive all across the country. Both the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts from Unit 720 out of Phoenix will be participating in this food drive now through Nov. 9.
On October 19, Lake Ontario Chapter 165 welcomed their companions from Ottawa Chapter 222 to Oswego for its annual “Hands across the Border” event at Lake City Lodge in Oswego. Each year the two chapters exchange visits to their respective nations.

The purchasing agent requested the council approve the low bid for the controlled demolition of 147.5 W. Bridge St. The Administrative Services Committee gave the request a favorable recommendation. The cost will be added to the owner’s taxes
Granby Elementary School sixth-graders received an early dose of lake-effect snowfall Monday as meteorologist Jim Teske offered his expertise on the subject. Teske, a meteorologist with News Channel 9, discussed the forces responsible for generating lake-effect snow and the difficulties in forecasting snowfall totals because there are so many factors that come into play.
The Oswego County Health Department reported Monday that a senior resident in the county is recovering from West Nile virus. It is estimated that the patient was infected with the virus in middle to late September. The virus is carried by mosquitoes and was found in mosquitoes collected in Central Square, West Monroe and in Onondaga County several times over the summer.

David Brenner, 80, of 225 W. First St., Oswego, died Saturday evening October 19, 2013, at the Veterans’ Hospital, Syracuse.
