The Oswego Fire Department will be holding an open house on October 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The East Side Fire Station, 35 East Cayuga St. There will be tours of the station, apparatus, and demonstrations.
Over the past three years the league has raised several thousand dollars in support of Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership, which provides free mammograms, breast exams, and breast ultrasounds for uninsured and under-insured women in Oswego County. This year’s tournament raised $2,764.
SUNY Oswego’s Ke-Nekt series will present noted jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein in concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. A preconcert talk will take place at 7 p.m.
The OHS Softball Players and Parents Association is accepting donations for its annual fall rummage sale that will be held on October 26 from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Oswego High School cafeteria.
A tree inventory is under way in the Port City. It is designed to find pests that are in urban forests because they come into urban forests first off and then they spread out and eat through everything. So it is important to detect them early, officials explained.

Madison-Mae Wilder is already thinking about her next birthday. Recently, the Pulaski Elementary School fifth grader celebrated her 10th birthday. Instead of receiving, she was giving. The young lady went out and raised donations, which she later presented to Paws and Effect for use by Paws Across Oswego County.
Mother Nature rained on the parade, but it didn’t stop 11 New York State Field Band Conference members from performing in a standstill on the floor of the Powers Gymnasium at the Frederick Leighton Elementary School.
With more than 60 families on the waiting list, ARISE will continue to build ramps for as long as the weather permits. However, in order to help as many families as possible before the end of the year, more volunteers are needed.
