Sandra Scott Travels: Make New Memories; Recall Old Ones at Rosamond Gifford Zoo

the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.It had been several years since I had visited the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. I felt that it was a place to take youngsters. And, yes, it was a beautiful day and there were many adults with children who were thrilled and amazed by the animals. But, there were many adults especially those interested in photography.

I enjoyed the visit because it brought to mind some of my travels.

Oswego Port Receives Large Grant

UPDATE 5:30 PM:  Senator Charles Schumer has just informed the mayor’s office that the Port of Oswego Authority has been awarded a $1.5 million grant that will fund the construction of a significant new rail link at the Port. Senator Schumer was committed to working with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, to position the Oswego project for a TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant.

For decades area youth have made a trip to the CYO program a daily ritual.  On September 9, 10 and 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. each day, Catholic Charities of Oswego County invites community members to discover for themselves the many reasons why CYO is the place to go after school as it hosts an open house at the CYO facilities inside Catholic Charities at 365 W. First St.

Melanie Trexler, executive director, United Way of Greater Oswego County has announced that Rob Rolfe of Harmony Financial Services will serve as chairperson for the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet. A long time supporter of United Way, Rolfe has served United Way in a number of capacities including 13 years as an employee campaign coordinator, a member of the community investment committee for nine years and a member of the Campaign Cabinet for the past five years.

Buc Golfers Win First Match of the Year

The Oswego High School golf team knew wins would be tough to come by in the early part of the 2013 season. Starting with five away matches in eight days, the team was literally thrown into league competition, on courses with which they were unfamiliar. Though they played well, Oswego lost its first two matches by a combined 15 shots. That all changed on Thursday at Liverpool.
