A benefit will be held for Helen/Candy Sereno on Sept. 15 at Timber Tavern Route 48 Baldwinsville from 1 to 6 p.m. Helen suffered a massive heart attack on June 16 and has been unable to work and faces mounting medical expenses.
On an afternoon full of storylines during pole day qualifying for the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway, none was more historical than that of Jessica Zemken looking to become the first woman to qualify for the richest Supermodified race in the world.On Friday night, with a lap of 16.590 seconds at 135.624 mph, history was indeed made, as Zemken officially clocked in 10th quick locking herself into the starting field for Sunday’s 200-lapper which is set to take the green at 3 p.m.
For the second consecutive year, Oswego native Pat Lavery will lead the Budweiser International Classic field to green. Lavery laid down the fastest lap of the 32 drivers to take time on Friday night with a quick circuit of 16.223 seconds at 138.692 mph. The pole position effort is the third of Lavery’s career during Budweiser International Classic Weekend, adding to his runs in 2010 and 2012. The pole position run for Lavery earns him $1,000 from front row sponsor Corr/Pak Merchandising.
Jan Morse and grandchildren, Vehjric and Vanessa Dupree, spent the day together. It was their last fun day together before school starts. They went to the arcade and then to Friendly’s for supper, they also enjoyed a little window shopping. Vehjric and Vanessa shared some of their ideas for Christmas gifts.
