Every chair was full recently at the Sterling Nature Center as a large group gathered for the center’s semi-annual poetry reading. The afternoon included readings by featured poets as well as an open mic where members of the community could sign up to read.
Volunteers could be spotted hauling trash bags all over Fulton on Saturday morning in celebration of Mayberry Day. The day is a collaboration between the city of Fulton and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce’s Fulton Project Bloom committee. Its mission, to clean up the debris in the city left over from the long winter months.
Chris Perley made a triumphant return to Oswego Speedway victory lane Saturday night but it was not entirely a joyous one. On May 2, ISMA and the area-racing world lost a legend and a great friend when Irish Jack Murphy died. In his honor the ISMA season opener was lengthened to 56 laps as a tribute to the famed driver who drove the Shamrock 6.
Young AJ Bernys made his opening night at Oswego Speedway count on Saturday, out dueling Rob Pullen in lapped traffic on lap 29 to take the race lead and go on to claim his second career Pathfinder Bank SBS victory at the ‘Steel Palace,’ pulling into Turning Stone Resort Casino Victory Lane on Gater Racing News and North Country Home Builders Opening Night.
The Fulton Speedway opened the 2013 season with a flurry. Larry Wight out ran teammate Billy Decker for a popular Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified win, while two other features were decided with last a lap pass and a win by .006 of a second.

The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on May 19. Serving will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be baked chicken, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.
The Fulton Memorial Day Salute Children’s Events will bring magical moments to children of all ages. During the weekend of May 24-25, there will be a variety of entertainment geared for children at the parade and at the Fulton War Memorial. On May 25 at 2 p.m., the Magic of Virgil will begin.
