Ron Kaplewicz was re-elected council president. Eric VanBuren was named council vice president, the position Mike Myers held last year. However, the votes weren’t unanimous. Councilor Shawn Walker voted no on both. It wasn’t about the person, rather the salary increase for each of the positions, he explained.
The State Police in Fulton are seeking the public’s help in any new leads regarding a man missing from the town of Scriba since June of 2012. John T. Humphrey, would be 50 years old (DOB: 11/21/63). Humphrey was last seen wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt. He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighs approximately 120 pounds. Anyone with information should contact the New York State Police in Fulton (315) 593-6194.
Fairgrieve Elementary School Principal Jean Ciesla recently recognized 110 students with Academic Excellence Awards. The students were nominated by their classroom teachers based on their academic standing and outstanding behavior and attitude in the classroom.
Third-grade students at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School have another resource to bolster their knowledge and vocabulary, thanks to a donation from the Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club. On Dec. 20, Rotarians Ellen Nowyj and LaVerne DeLand brought 124 dictionaries for each third-grader at the school.
The votes will determine the winner of the 2014 Charlotte Award, which is named for the main character in E.B. White’s “Charlotte’s Web,” and aims to encourage students to read books and ultimately become life-long readers. It recognizes the authors and illustrators of such literature.
