The Friends of Oswego County Hospice are beginning a year-long education campaign regarding the benefits of Hospice care for people with a life-limiting illness. Made possible through a grant from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, this education program will target residents of Oswego County and the professional medical community.
Oswego Rotary hosted Melanie Proper from the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County recently. Ms. Proper is a mental health counselor at the CAC. The center is a safe, child-friendly site for the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse.
Mohawk Valley Community College, located in Utica and Rome, is proud to announce the names of students whose high academic performance has qualified them for recognition as members of the President’s List for the recently completed Fall 2013 semester.
The artistic impressions of several Oswego High School students were recognized in the annual Central New York Scholastic Arts competition. Several Oswego students were recently recognized at ceremonies on the Onondaga Community College campus. Their work will be on display through February 28 at the Whitney Applied Technology Center, 4941 Onondaga Road in Syracuse.

The board of education decided Wednesday night to repost the position of varsity boys’ track team’s head coach. During a lengthy debate, they stressed they aren’t against the veteran coach who was slotted for the job. The sticking point is the nearly $11,000 salary associated with the position.
The NYS Financial Restructuring Board for Local Governments held its third meeting on Tuesday. During the meeting, board members voted to accept applications from the city of Rochester and villages of Alfred, North Collins and Wilson for comprehensive review – the first step in the process. Members also discussed the progress of its already approved applicants – the city of Fulton and town of Fishkill.
