James H. Lee will be the topic of the first Oswego Town Historical Society meeting of 2014. It will be held at the Oswego Town Hall, 2320 County Route 20, on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. Lee, a resident of the town and North Sterling, was in the Battle of the Kearsage and Alabama 150 years ago this June.
Assemblyman Will Barclay voted to reform the controversial Common Core standards and curriculum. Assembly bill 8929 prohibits Common Core testing from counting against students’ permanent records or on teacher evaluation scores, but fails to delay these high-stakes tests or institute the type of long-term reforms necessary to remedy our education system.
The Pulaski High School Science Club was formed by teachers Carl Nylen and Thomas Pullen to increase students’ interest in science outside of the classroom setting. The co-advisors hoped to work on projects that would teach students the importance of sustainability and conservation of the world’s resources.
Fairgrieve Elementary School Principal Jean Ciesla recognized 22 students during a special Morning Express ceremony for their exemplary behavior. Exemplary behavior is celebrated at the school with monthly Expectation Expert Awards.
The panel of judges has been secured for The Next Great Idea 2014 Oswego County Business Plan Competition, according to Austin Wheelock, economic development specialist for Operation Oswego County and Co-Chair of NGI.
Staff from St. Luke Health Services joined colleagues at affiliates Bishop’s Commons, Michaud Residential Health Services and St. Francis Commons to take part in an organization-wide benefit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, during National MS Awareness Week. For a monetary donation, staff “dressed casually” at work for the day in support of the National MS Society.
