Practical Nursing students graduate, ready to embark on medical careers

After 40 weeks of classroom training and hands-on learning, 26 Oswego County BOCES Practical Nursing program students earned their diplomas Thursday and are preparing to embark on medical careers in the near future. The nearly 1,200-hour adult education course prepares students to work as a practical nurse in such places as home care agencies, nursing homes, physicians’ offices, hospitals and health care clinics.

French and Indians to Attack Fort Ontario, Again!

On Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m., historically uniformed, dressed and accoutered volunteers will gather at Fort Ontario State Historic Site to re-create the July 5 to 6, 1759 French attack on Oswego. Once again the French, under the Chevalier de la Corne, will achieve surprise when their scouts overrun a British woodcutting party, but lose momentum when their Sulpican Priest Abbe Piquet stops the main force of attackers to pray for victory, thus providing the panicked defenders time to roll flour and pork barrels into a defensive line.
