Homecoming violinist’s Brahms sonatas to open Ke-Nekt season

The season opener for SUNY Oswego’s Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series will feature an evening of Johannes Brahms and a return to Central New York for violinist Jeremy Mastrangelo at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Mastrangelo, a Syracuse native and associate concertmaster with the now-dissolved Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, will offer the three violin sonatas of Brahms, according to Mastrangelo’s host, pianist Juan F. La Manna of the SUNY Oswego music department, who will offer a preconcert talk at 7 that evening.

Veterans Memorial Breakfast and Fly-in Planned

The F. R. Sussey Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol along with the local Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 486 will host a special Veterans Memorial pancake breakfast and fly-in on September 14. The breakfast will have a patriotic theme and be held in the EAA hanger at 2326 County Route 176 (Whittaker Road) on the Oswego County Airport. Scrabble Fest Introduces the Golden Tile

For Scrabble enthusiasts searching for that last letter to spell the perfect word, Literacy Volunteers has the answer, the coveted Golden Tile! In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Literacy Volunteers, the eighth annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest will feature the introduction of the Golden Tile. According to planning committee member and Literacy Volunteers coordinator Meg Henderson, the Golden Tiles will add a new dimension to the competition.

Record 126 Entries Contended in Oswego Kartway Classic Event

A record 126 entries contended in Oswego Kartway’s RJ Kart Sales Kartway Classic last Thursday between 14 different divisions. For the eighth time, the Kartway Classic took place on the Thursday prior to Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway, and yet again the night’s racing action was some of the best of the season.

UPDATE: Two Fulton residents are facing felony drug charges. Members of the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team along with members of the Fulton City Police Department, New York State Police, and Oswego County Sheriff’s Office reportedly discovered a methamphetamine lab at 306 West Broadway in Fulton.

Phoenix Central School District Staff Recognized for Years of Service

Many teachers and staff were recognized for their 15 to 40 years of service with the Phoenix Central School District on Faculty and Staff Opening Day, Sept. 2. Superintendent Judy Belfield awarded pins of recognition to each of the 53 employees as they approached the front of the auditorium. If all the years of dedication from these staff members were added together, it would equal 995 years.
