Oswego School Board To Meet Oct. 7

Therese Schoeneck, founder and executive director of HOPE for Bereaved, and Walter Stein, director of public outreach/development at HOPE, presented a program recently to members of the Oswego Rotary Club. Schoeneck established HOPE in 1978, 15 months after her daughter, Mary, died in a car accident.
At the end of August, the children at Discovery Learning Center took a field trip to Midway Stables in Phoenix. The children were able to see different types of horses, pet a pony, see inside the mouth of a horse and sit on a (non-moving) tractor.
On Thursday (October 2), at approximately 9:12 p.m., the city of Oswego Police Department received information of a juvenile who made threats against an Oswego city school via Facebook. A subsequent investigation into the complaint found that the threats were not credible. The juvenile was located, interviewed and subsequently processed through the Oswego County Family Court.
The Oswego Pride Committee is a group of community members that is committed to helping to create a future for Oswego that is free from discrimination. In an effort to promote this philosophy the Oswego Pride Committee is thrilled to announce Oswego’s very first Pride Parade and celebration scheduled for October 12.
Oswego County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner administered the oath at the Oswego County Courthouse on Oneida Street as members of the graduates’ families looked on, many of them taking photographs. Youth Court is a recognized community diversion program aimed at keeping young offenders out of Family Court, according to Brian Chetney, director of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
A “Party in Pink” Zumbathon to benefit the new Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention managed by the Susan G. Komen fund, will be held on October 11 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Fulton Family Y. The event is being organized by Fulton Family YMCA certified Zumba instructors Jennifer Hicks and Pam Finocchiaro.
September 2014 was a very pleasant month, mild, dry and sunny, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. It ended just like an Indian Summer.
