November 2014 goes into the record books a bit on the mild side, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The average temperature was 1.4 degrees below average. Total precipitation for November was 0.86-inch below average.
A few years ago I wrote my first love letter to the Oswego community. After the outpouring of help and donations this year to the Human Concerns Center, I had to write the sequel. Oswego is in the midst of a reawakening. Our community is uniting together to improve our neighborhoods, parks and general spirit. Yet, our community cannot become a first-class place to live unless we make it the kind of place that benefits us all. And we are.

Amy Jo “Missy” Conner, 48, of Middletown and formerly of Fulton, passed away Tuesday November 25, 2014.
The more than 500 students eligible for December graduation ceremonies on Dec. 13 took many roads to SUNY Oswego and acquired experiences to follow many paths after. As of late November, some 430 undergraduates and 101 graduate students were eligible for the Dec. 13 ceremonies in the Marano Campus Center arena, which also will be streamed live with a link from oswego.edu homepage.
On Sunday, November 30, the snow subsided and melted some and the roads were bare in Redfield, allowing for more than 250 people to gather at the Redfield Fire Hall to memorialize Ron Bumpus who left this world on October 23. The event was presided over by Ron’s lifetime friend, John Stedman, who masterfully organized the speakers.
Winter is here, and as much as I love to be outdoors in the snow, I’’d like to know whether there are some things I should watch out for to keep my pets safe so that we can all enjoy ourselves.
Oswego Kartway officials announced the 2015 racing schedule for the “Bull Ring” on Dec. 1, featuring 18 total events including an unprecedented three New York Dirt Kart Series qualifiers. The Kartway’s schedule will begin with the annual preseason warm-up race on May 1 and run through September 26 with the return of the Fun Finale event to cap the season.
For most, the holiday season is the busiest time of the year. Between the shopping, the baking and get-togethers with family and friends, there’s often little time for much else. However, this holiday season, I’m encouraging you to remember to give back to those in need. It’s estimated that roughly 34 percent of all charitable donations are made in the final three months of the year, with 18 percent of donations being made in December.
