Early detection is perhaps the most important weapon in the war against cancer. March is “Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month,” a time when the Cancer Services Program Partnership of Oswego County reminds us that regular screenings are especially important for the early detection of colorectal cancer.
Oswego County Fire Coordinator Donald Forbes reminds county residents of the annual statewide ban on all open burning which is in effect in New York during the high fire-risk period of March 16 through May 14. The ban makes it illegal to use a burn barrel or open pit as a means for incinerating trash. The burning of leaves is also banned anytime of the year in New York State.

Members of the Syracuse branch of Airgas, located at 2730 Erie Blvd. East, will be on site at all Speedway events in 2015, prepared to exchange or provide teams with nitrogen cylinders as well as other safety and welding products, tools and hardware, and gas equipment.
This regional event is brought together through the cooperative efforts of business, industry, municipalities, community not-for-profit organizations and the support of families and individuals. The behind-the-scenes organization has changed considerably over the years, but the festival continues to be a “must see” destination for thousands of New York State families.
The seventh annual Talent Show at Leighton Elementary was held recently and included 40 students, performing 25 acts, and all with a diverse range of talents, according to Jenn Symborski, Leighton School literacy specialist and talent show coordinator.
The paper vans will serve as donation boxes and can be found at senior centers and business throughout Oswego County during the month of March. All donations will be used to support OCO Nutrition Services’ Meals On Wheels program and its six Dining and Activity Centers.
New York Sea Grant has received funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the National Sea Grant College Program to track historic storm events along the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. The project will create a climatological event database to better assist risk projection to help communities increase their storm event resiliency.
OHS Inc., the Oswego High School Business Class, delivered 625 hats, mittens and scarves to the New American Center in Syracuse. The items were collected during their recent Hats and Mittens drive. They will be used to help legal immigrants new to the area adapt to their new, colder surroundings.
