On March 23 at 7 p.m., at the Hannibal Community Center, Oswego Street, Hannibal, John Donohue will be sharing his experiences during his quest to find out “Who Were the Women of Perm? The history of Donohue’s quest started in July of 1918, when Nicholas Romanov, Tsar of all the Russias, along with his immediate family and several others, were assassinated in a cellar in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
After a successful 2014 season in the small block supermodified division at Oswego Speedway, J.J. Andrews will once again team up with Billy Whittaker CARS and TRUX, of Central Square, for the 2015 season. Andrews will seek his first championship in his 18th season as a driver in the division.
Leighton Elementary School in Oswego was full of positive energy and activities recently for their Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports celebration. PBIS is a district-wide approach to teaching, modeling, recognizing and encouraging positive behaviors in a school setting, while providing a framework and social system that supports success outside the school, as well.
The State of Emergency imposed last week by Mayor Thomas Gillen remains in effect for the city of Oswego. According to Oswego DPW Commissioner Michael Smith, more than 30 properties have had their water services restored but there are still more than a dozen who remain without water as the work continues. It is EXTREMELY important that residents continue to have their water running (about the diameter of a pencil) without interruption until further notice.
Although small in stature, students at Lura M. Sharp Elementary School are putting on a larger-than-life performance as “Annie Kids” takes the stage later this month. The show, under the direction of music teacher Stacey Landas, is a spin on the classic story of little orphan Annie.
The seventh annual School House 5K Run/Walk has been set for March 8 with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 12:15 p.m. The kid’s fun run will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the 5K Race/Walk will start at 1 p.m. The race is held as a fundraiser for the Pulaski Marching Band.
The Oswego Vegan/Vegetarian Club will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. on March 5 in the Newman Center. There will be a vegan potluck dinner; bring a vegan dish for six to share plus your own plates, cup and utensils.
Registration for the fourth annual Tri-Oswego Triathlon is open, according to race director Christopher Jones. The USAT Sanctioned event will take place June 20 at Breitbeck Park on Lake Ontario in Oswego. The fourth-annual event will showcase athletes from throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada.
Rev. Walter Schneider, 82, of Sterling, passed away suddenly on Sunday March 1, 2015.
