Oswego Community Christian School students are doing their part to support the school’s eighth annual auction. Students in each grade have been busy preparing themed baskets that will be up for bid during the auction. Each basket will be filled with an array of goodies that pertain to a unique theme.
Any residents of Oswego that would like to make their food dollars go further, may order May Food $en$e packages until 3 p.m. on May 8 at the Oswego County Salvation Army Worship and Service Center. All Oswego residents may use the program. There are no income limitations and no restrictions on the number of items one may buy.
Mother Earth Baby will be host to the Oswego/CNY/NNY site of an international cloth diaper changing event taking place on April 18, the same week as Earth Day. This is the fifth anniversary of the international event.
Fulton native and contestant on “The Voice,” Josh Batstone gave a private concert to the kindergartners of Lanigan Elementary recently, his own alma mater. Batstone made it to the Battle Rounds of the eighth season of “The Voice” on Adam Levine’s team. His performance of “Amnesia” (by the Australian band “5 Seconds of Summer”) on “The Voice” can be purchased on iTunes.
The much-loved Thai king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, has reigned since 1946 making him the longest serving current head of state and the longest-reigning Thai monarch. When the king and the royal family want to enjoy a beach getaway, they head three hours south of Bangkok to the Cha’am/Hua Hin area. International tourists, especially North Americans, usually head south, too; but to Phuket, Phi Phi Island, Ko Samui, and other places that are reached by plane.
According to cosmetology teacher Ines Rovito, the event served as an opportunity for the program to give back to the community and allowed students the chance to interact with local salon owners and professional stylists.
A major National Science Foundation grant recognizes the research and accomplishments of SUNY Oswego biological sciences faculty member Christopher Chandler while providing research opportunities for his students at Oswego and overseas. The highly competitive NSF Faculty Early Career Development grant is the foundation’s top award “in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research,” according to its website.
DIRTcar Racing’s Sportsman Modified Series kicks off its 14-race 2015 season on April 25, at Fulton Speedway, and expectations are high as the tour will roll through New York, Ontario and Quebec throughout the year.
The school held a Grandparent Bingo event as a way to teach students the importance of family and community.
