On June 8, three new Fulton Police officers were sworn in by the Hon. David Hawthorne in Fulton City Court. Justin Sweeting, Jacob Chernesky and Joshua Levea completed a one-week orientation at the police department before starting their police academy training on June 15 at the Mohawk Valley Police Academy in Utica.
Assemblyman Will Barclay will host a coffee hour from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Constantia Fire Department. The public is invited to attend.
As a reward for their reading excellence throughout the year, students at Fairgrieve Elementary school were recently afforded to opportunity to submerge one of their educators into the frigid waters of a dunking booth.
A free public reception for the artist, a recent Fayetteville-Manlius High School graduate who is a national and regional Scholastic Art Awards honoree, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. July 18, at Oswego State Downtown.
A student who graduates with honors is indicated by the traditional Latin phrases summa cum laude, with highest honor (grade averages of 3.8 to 4.0); magna cum laude, with great honor (grade averages of 3.6 to 3.79); and cum laude, with honor (grade averages of 3.30 to 3.59).
School days are winding down. Children and families are getting ready to switch gears to summer fun. Last summer, Discovery Learning Center offered four weeks of Summer Camp fun and this year the fun is being doubled. Starting July 6, DLC will have eight fun-filled weeks of Summer Camp from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Isabelle Perry submitted the winning entry in the Asian elephant naming contest at Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse. Perry, a student in Michelle McManus’ third grade class, submitted the name Batu (“BAA-two”) and after five days of voting and 3,794 votes cast online, her submission garnered 47 percent of the total votes.
