Want to learn more about how important trees are? A workshop will be held that will take a look at part of the local urban forest and how participants can help the trees (and all of us!) thrive. Oswego Teen Receives Assistance Dog From Canine Companions for Independence

Canine Companions for Independence – a national non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities – is proud to announce that Oswego resident Brittany Kaye has recently received a Canine Companions Assistance Dog. Thirteen-year-old Brittany was matched with Fonda, a two-year-old Lab/Golden Retriever cross who has been trained to respond to more than 50 commands.

Magic Returns To Minetto August 8

Magic in Minetto, in conjunction with Canal Splash, will be held on August 8 from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mnettto River View Park, County Route 48. Magic is a fun, family event which features music, food, kids’ crafts, face painting and ice cream as well as a bouncy hut. The Children’s Museum of Oswego will provide activities.

Oswego Supermodified and NEMA Midget veteran Jeff Abold will contend this Saturday in the inaugural Tony Stewart Midget Classic at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Featuring Midget racing since 1941, the Indianapolis Speedrome has played host to some of the greatest open-wheel drivers in history including Mel Kenyon, Rich Vogler, Tom Bigelow, Bob Cicconi, Bryan Clauson, Kenny Irwin Jr., Larry Rice, and Stewart himself.

Thirteen young contestants anxiously took the stage recently to sing their hearts out in hopes of being crowned “Fulton Idol.” As the contestants anxiously awaited the results, Alexis Barth, an eighth grader at Fulton Junior High School, was all smiles as she realized she had won the title of Fulton Idol. She had competed in Fulton Idol last year and took home fourth place.

Fire Department Conducts Drill At City Pool

In an effort to keep the community safe, the Oswego Fire Department works closely with the lifeguard staff at the public pool located at Fort Ontario. Every year, each shift from the fire department tours the facility, interacts with the lifeguards, and gets acclimated to the surroundings should they need to respond to an emergency there. The Oswego Fire Department coordinated a drill last week at the pool that simulated a child injured from diving in shallow water.
