Reality Check Of Cayuga, Onondaga, Oswego Counties Seeks New Members

Reality Check is looking for teens 13-18 years old, living in Cayuga, Onondaga and Oswego counties who are interested in becoming part of a statewide movement to expose Big Tobacco’s deceptive marking practices targeting youth as replacement smokers. Reality Check youth work to expose the truth about the way the tobacco industry advertises and they try to eliminate those marketing opportunities in their community.

Get Wet, Keep Cool in August at Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center

Beat the heat this August at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center with two public programs that they will be presenting. On August 11 at 10 a.m., kids of all ages are invited to enjoy a “wet and wild” summer morning adventure with naturalist Pat Carney. Then, on August 16 at 2 p.m., come for a walk through the cool woodlands and wetlands of the center to explore the world of salamanders.

Christina’s Credits – Harborfest 2015 Returns To Family-Friendly Roots

Harborfest was relatively quiet and modestly participated this year. There were not as many vendors as previous years. This may have led to this year’s low turnout. And thanks to the many law enforcement agencies, Harborfest this year had a renewed family feeling. Syracuse’s jazz and wine festival and craft fair might have contributed to the reduced crowds, also.

Regular Quarterly Tests of Nuclear Sirens Begins Aug. 3

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office has announced that the regularly scheduled quarterly tests of the current emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point will take place Aug. 3, through 7, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. These tests are separate from the full-scale testing of the new siren system recently installed by the nuclear power plants.
