Children must turn four years old on or before December 1, 2015, to register for our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program; and children must turn five years old on or before December 1, 2015, to register for kindergarten.
Reality Check is looking for teens 13-18 years old, living in Cayuga, Onondaga and Oswego counties who are interested in becoming part of a statewide movement to expose Big Tobacco’s deceptive marking practices targeting youth as replacement smokers. Reality Check youth work to expose the truth about the way the tobacco industry advertises and they try to eliminate those marketing opportunities in their community.
Golfers in the 18th Annual St. Luke-Francis Boyce Memorial Charity Tournament will take aim at a $20,000 hole-in-one contest thanks to The House Works in Fulton. The event tees off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on August 8 at Battle Island State Park in Fulton.
Church in Oswego will hold its annual Polish Festival August 9 on the church grounds at 140 Niagara St. from noon until 7 p.m. Volunteers have been busy preparing the Polish foods.

Beat the heat this August at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center with two public programs that they will be presenting. On August 11 at 10 a.m., kids of all ages are invited to enjoy a “wet and wild” summer morning adventure with naturalist Pat Carney. Then, on August 16 at 2 p.m., come for a walk through the cool woodlands and wetlands of the center to explore the world of salamanders.
On October 27, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Women employees and business owners need inspiration, ideas, information and other women to network with.
Harborfest was relatively quiet and modestly participated this year. There were not as many vendors as previous years. This may have led to this year’s low turnout. And thanks to the many law enforcement agencies, Harborfest this year had a renewed family feeling. Syracuse’s jazz and wine festival and craft fair might have contributed to the reduced crowds, also.

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office has announced that the regularly scheduled quarterly tests of the current emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point will take place Aug. 3, through 7, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. These tests are separate from the full-scale testing of the new siren system recently installed by the nuclear power plants.
