Along with firefighters and safety advocates nationwide, the Oswego Fire Department is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association during Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, to remind local residents about the importance of having working smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.
Marking the two-year anniversary of the death of SUNY Oswego’s largest donor, the trustee of the Lorraine E. Marano Living Trust came to campus Sept. 28 to dedicate a plaque installed in the Marano Campus Center, which was named in honor of Lorraine and Nunzio “Nick” Marano’s generous community spirit and their $7.5 million gift.
The Oswego County 4-H Program would like to thank the community for all of its support with the recent annual fabric sale, a fundraiser for the local 4-H Program, held at Believer’s Chapel in Mexico. We received an enormous stockpile of donated goods.
“I met with the board and informed them of my intentions,” Superintendent Ben Halsey told Oswego County Today. “I have been living apart from my family for two years, come this December. Trying to relocate all of my family here has run into some obstacles. So, for personal reasons, I will be stepping down in order to get back with my family.” Nothing is formal as of now.
It is with great sorrow that the family of Meldon “Mel” Dodge, of Oswego, announces his passing on Thursday October 1, 2015, after a long illness.
Here in Oswego County 13 people are diagnosed with cancer and 5 die from cancer each week. Female breast cancer accounts for 11.4% of all cancer cases and 5.2% of all cancer deaths. For Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program those are unacceptable numbers that they are dedicated to reducing.
The Hannibal Central School District recently welcomed new staff.
