The Oswego Fire Department is are proud to announce its upcoming “Oswego Community Safety Day” scheduled for May 7 in
the Port Authority owned parking lot adjacent to the Oswego Fire Department headquarters. The event will feature a host of local public safety and service agencies on hand to help the community stay safe.
The United Baptist Church of Scriba will hold a craft show and bake sale on May 21. The hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, President Betty Maute introduced Brian Coleman and Megan Lee from the Rural Health Network which works toward improving the health of the populations within the region covering Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Oneida and Oswego counties.

Students who attended the Bridges to Success alternative education program field trip to the Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus left there inspired to steer themselves in a more positive direction. Inmates shared with students about the dangers and consequences of poor choices.
Jennifer Shropshire, a 1986 alumna of SUNY Oswego, addressed SUNY Oswego’s Honors Convocation on April 15, where more than 100 students were recognized for their academic achievements and leadership. “Walk about the world with open hearts and open minds. Listen. Honor the value of every person you encounter,” she advised the students.

The Oswego School Board Tuesday night approved the $79,510,611 budget proposal for the 2016-17 school year. The budget also contains many reductions; several support staff and teaching positions are on the block as well as a big chunk of the district’s athletic programs. Several speakers warned the board of the negative impact cutting sports would have on the students and community as well.
